Corporations

Much of the economic and colonisation activity in the Universe is supported by the big corporations. These are often multi-national, and therefore difficult for governments to control. In fact many believe that it is the corporations that control governments.

The corporations do not operate on the SV scale as they are not governments (and SV represent the margin of resources available to government, not money), so it isn't possible to compare them like for like to government expenditure.

One estimate the general worth of the corporate sector in SV terms, universe-wide, made it about the same as the Government sector, that is roughly 20,000-25,000 SV.

At any given time there are probably at least 10 times as many merchant ships in the Universe as military.
