A Mystery Fleet

A semi-mythical fleet of armed merchant ships that came to the aid of the fledgling Sirius Socialist Republic during a cruicial phase of its rebellion against the Solar Republic during a cruicial battle in 2929.

The mysterious fleet reputedly departed shortly after the battle without identifying itself, and this has therefore been the source of extensive theorising from historians and conspiracy theorists alike.

Common Theories

Anti-Earther activists from New Venus (which was itself not to rebel against Earth for another 166 years) wanted to act without reprisal from Earth. Most historians feel this is a little far fetched, and an example of post-hoc revisionist history.

Martian Free Traders wished to support the rebellion, as a distraction from the Free Mars struggles, took the opportunity to kick Earth while it was overstretched. This is regarded as fairly likely. Agsin, they remained anonymous.

False Flag Operation the Earther government, wishing to save face arranged the covert ships in order to pull out of the whole Sirius mess and resist calls from political factions on Earth to take a tougher line with Sirius.

Time Travellers from the 3220s came back to change/create history. Widely regarded as conspiracy theory nonsense.
