Recreational Drugs

There are a vast array of consciousness altering drugs available throughout the universe, many of which as variously illegal in different places. This is an overview of the currently popular drugs of choice.

REDS

REDS create highly beivevable hallucinations and out of body experiences, many users become so immersed in thier 'alternate reality' so created that they lose interest in the real world.

BLUES

Also used as a medical sedative, BLUES put the user into a state of euphoria and relation such that nothing bothers them and all is well with the world. The risks of excessive use include becoming dangerously risk-taking as well as especially vulnerable to scams and con-tricks.

GREENS

GREENS are a mood enhancer creating a marvellous sense of joy and happiness. The downside is that withdrawal of the drug can lead to long term depressive illnesses.

PINKS

Like READS, PINKS are another psychotropic drug that alters the users state of consiousness, though in less extreme ways than the more powerful REDS. PINK users often report experiencing colourfull hallucinations or become fascinated by imaginary visual distortions.

YELLOWS

The psychoctive elements of YELLOWS create another altered state of consciousness similar to advanced meditation, in which the user develops an enhanced awareness of the universe and their place in it. Unfortunately they are always unable to recall the details when the effects of the drug wear off.

PURPLES

PURPLES are a psychohypnotic drug that reduce willpower and make the user highly suggestible. Used both recreationally and for criminal purposes.

VERUM SIX

Known colloquially as the 'truth drug'. Verum Six is used by governments and law enforcement on many worlds. Also used recreationally in the often very raucous 'truth or dare' parties.

MAD

The Marine Activation Drug (MAD) is used by the military in the Special Forces and Starship Marines to enhance cognitive and behavioural capabilities in combat. In order to be used safely there is a length period of training and psyhcologiocal evaluation needed. It is used recreationally by extreme sports practitioners and thrill-seekers. Its use outside of the military is strictly controlled so its price on the civilian market is correspondingly high.

EXOTIC HERBS

It is not unusual for herbs with both medicinal and recreational usefullness to be discovered on colony worlds. The effect of these can vary widely from mild mood stimulation, to aphrodisiac effect, to effect similar to REDS or PINKS and other recreational drugs.

ALCOHOL

Some worlds ban drinks with dangerously high alcohol content such as Venerian Brandy and Draconian Beer.

TOBACCO

Recreational use is banned on nearly every world and it is widely regarded as a licenced poison, especially in its smoked form. Use is very limited for recreation and it is not a drug of choice for many.

Note on Addiction

All chemical addctions can be treated with modern medical procedures. However, psycological addition or dependency can be more complex to treat and often requires longer term mental health and therapeutic procedures to successfully treat - requiring as it does, the user to accept the need for treatment.
