Extremer

Originating on the Venerian Republic in the early 3200s, Extremers are (usually) young people undergoing very extreme genetic modification, in many cases to deliberately cause shock and revulsion in the general population. The aim is usually to create an individual look that is horrific, weird or repulsive to social norms.

This originally youth subculture has been largely suppressed by legislation within the Venerian Republic as it was regarded as dangerously antisocial and even subversive.

Extremers themselves say that it is variously about self expression, protest against the status quo, or even an art form.

Following repression in Venerian space, the Extremer 'movement' has spread, and there are now considerable numbers of Extremers outside Quadrant 0, though the genetic modification process is expensive.
