Mald Provost Corps

The military defence forces of the Maldenite Democratic Foundation are somewhat unusual.
Their ships are of old designs and it is common practice to maintain a ship much longer than is usual elsewhere in other navies. It is rumoured that many of their capital ships are over 100 years old and still functioning perfectly.

The MDF has a long history of being firmly nonaligned politically. In defending its position of neutrality it has developed strong defences, mainly in the form of a large Navy. It is widely believed that they manage to keep their full strength hidden - stories of secret fleets are common. This was, to some extent confirmed in the short Mald-Venerian War of 3098 where a Venerian Task Force was mauled by an unexpectedly large MPC Fleet.

On the surface of its home worlds it has substantial defensive forces, including eight GF Divisions, and each system is protected by a substantial fleet of interplanetary battleships. MPC fleets are also flexible, they seem to rotate their ships on an almost day by day basis. A fleet of a dozen ships will often bee a dozen different ships a couple of octants later. As a result non-Mald military observers have often been at odds with each other as to the location and even operational charactistics of the MPC.

Many of its practices and operational doctrines remain unknown to the wider universe - intelligence services of all polities have tried to put agents in the MPC, and where this has been successful the results have been inconclusive - all reports indicate a 'soft' and 'nonmilitary' force with little experience and no warlike traits. Yet, as was shown in 3098, this impression must be erroneous.

The MPC has no officer corps as such - military formations appear to operate on an unheard of system of leadership by peers - apparently relying on 'natural leaders' to take charge in a crisis.
