Background

Potomax is the capital world of the Greater Federation of Asteel (GFA) in Quadrant 7, and a vital center of commerce, industry, and governance. Renowned for its advanced infrastructure and bustling spaceports, Potomax is the economic powerhouse of the GFA's presence in the quadrant. Its cities are characterized by cutting-edge technology and a thriving business sector, making it a hub for trade and interstellar negotiations.

Potomax is also home to key government institutions and military installations, including the headquarters of the GFA Navy (GFAN). The planet plays a central role in the GFA's strategic and defense operations, especially in light of its growing military presence in the quadrant. With a strong cultural identity and diverse population, Potomax embodies the GFA's ambition to lead and innovate in Quadrant 7.

History

Founded in 3045 by settlers funded through investment from Priest Engineering.
As the first and most sucessful GFA colony in the quadrant, Potomax has been the formal Colonial Capital for GFA Q7 Colonies since 3051.

Early Colonists

The original colonists called themselves "The Renewed Expedition Colony", and remained in sole control of the planet for most of its early developmental period.
The colony was majority Hindu at its formation, with a sizable minority of Elvists. Since that time the population has become more cosmopolitan.

Recent Events

In 3131, the colonists completed the prestigious 'Neang TransContinental Bridge' over 2000 kilometres long, linking the Greater Southern Continent with the Gygax Subcontinent.

During the First Exterminator War, Potomax became the centre of the alliance of international powers that formed the Joint Allied Command, under the leadership of then-GFA governor Rhett Elgon. The alliance became the model for subsequent interstellar treaties including the Treaty of Old London, and Potomax remains the site of summit meetings for the Q7 signatory powers.
