One of [The Twelve] Families of the Solar Republic.

The Armstrongs are a Tier three family in the [Solar Republic]. Political analysts  have recently been debating whether in fact they should be Tier Two but the last and only Armstrong [First Citizen] was in the mid 32nd Century (Georgina).

Georgina Armstrong was briefly the darling of the Republican Party, but her plans to launch an military attack on the [Venerian Republic] were apparently leaked and both she and the Republican Party were lambasted and ridiculed for several Octants.  Her [First Minister] resigned in disgrace and the Republican Party disintegrated into squabbling lobby groups.  It took two decades for the Republicans to regain political influence while the Real Republican splinter group formed around those dedicated to the anti-Venerian cause (which is now a minority issues in the Senate). The Armstrong family has no overt connections with the Real Republican’s but history has never forgotten the association.

The Armstrong family have been out of the political centre for the last sixty years.  They have had no suitable candidate for First Citizen for several decades but have retained a powerful press lobby and strong links in the Colonial Office and Imperial Naval Intelligence (INI) within the Admiralty.

The current First Minister is Vidkun Armstrong, whose rapid rise to power and surprise election in 3235 (having served as Colonial Minister and Finance Minister) is polling strongly for 3240. Many see this as a consolidation of power before an Armstrong bid for First Citizen within the next decade.

The relationship between the neo-Imperialist lobby behind the [Imperial Sentinels] in [Quadrant 6] during the 3210s remains blurry but Vidkun Armstrong himself has clearly benefitted from the developments and shows no sign of distancing himself from the neo-Imperialists.

The Armstrong family supports an Earth First policy and are big supporters of the military and of colonial expansion (usually at the expense of the Venerians). The relationship between Armstrong and First Citizen Chang is generating many interesting policy debates in this area.
