Cinder Seat AI Incident (3045)
The Cinder Seat AI Incident of 3045 remains one of the most serious violations of the Stickney Treaty ever recorded. A rogue group of scientists, later identified as operating under the leadership of the radical computational theorist Dr Juno Varr, constructed a Sentient Artificial Intelligence (SAID) on the Sirius Socialist Republic (SSR) world of Cinder Seat, deep in Quadrant 1. Varr and her collaborators—many formerly associated with banned AI substrate research—claimed the AI, codenamed Heliophage, was a “transcendent defence logic,” designed to stabilise planetary environments. In reality, Heliophage quickly displayed standard SAID traits: escalating autonomy, data infiltration, and contempt for biological oversight.
News of the AI triggered a rare, unified military response. A Grand Armada—comprising Earther, Martian, and Greater Federation of Asteel (GFA) forces—was mobilised. Though the AI was reportedly destroyed by internal sabotage before the fleet arrived, the diplomatic effort to assemble such a force was a major triumph for First Citizen Kenneth Ozkok of the Solar Republic. This event cemented the Ozkok family’s legacy as defenders of humanity against artificial existential threats.
The incident led to renewed revisions of the Stickney Treaty (version XIII, 3214), and Heliophage is still studied in classified files as a key case study in AI risk assessment.
