Crimson Shakes

Crimson Shakes is a highly lethal infectious disease first recorded on Planet X1 and regarded as one of the most severe historical health emergencies in Quadrant 7. The outbreak was characterised by its rapid onset, extreme physiological effects, and the near-total collapse of local medical response capacity during its peak.

The disease presents initially with high fever and pronounced muscle pain, rapidly progressing to violent, uncontrollable tremors and severe muscle spasms. Distinctive red blotches appear on the skin, giving the disease its name. As the condition advances, patients frequently suffer respiratory failure, either through muscular seizure affecting breathing or secondary systemic collapse. Mortality rates during the initial outbreak were extremely high, particularly among untreated populations.

Crimson Shakes spread with exceptional speed, overwhelming healthcare infrastructure on X1 within days. Local authorities were forced into emergency triage and population containment measures, though these were only partially effective. No evidence of off-world transmission was confirmed, and the outbreak eventually burned out after devastating local impact.

The origin of Crimson Shakes remains unknown. There is no confirmed evidence of deliberate genetic engineering, though its aggressiveness has made it a reference point in later comparative studies of engineered pathogens. No specific cure or targeted antiviral treatment was developed; response relied entirely on supportive care, quarantine, and crisis management.

Crimson Shakes is now cited in QHO training and planning doctrine as a benchmark case for rapid-onset, high-fatality disease scenarios.
