Description

Gryme, one of the oldest and wealthiest colony worlds in Quadrant 7, stands as a cornerstone of the Sirius Socialist Republic's (SSR) interstellar presence. Founded as the People's Progressive Colony in 3120 with initial backing from the Dan Corporation, Gryme’s progressive ideals and strong democratic roots made it a natural fit for the SSR, which it joined via referendum in 3181.

The planet's geography is defined by three major continents: Aurisia, Keltan, and Suvon.

Aurisia Continent, the economic hub, boasts Redspire, the planet’s largest city and center for high-tech manufacturing, and Novagrad, a cultural capital renowned for its universities and arts.

Keltan Continent, home to fertile plains and dense forests, is the agricultural heart of Gryme, supporting food security across the SSR.

Suvon, a resource-rich continent, is dominated by mining operations and includes the industrial city of Vorska.

Gryme's significance to the SSR lies in its economic and cultural contributions. Its advanced industries, particularly in technology and heavy manufacturing, drive regional development, while its thriving educational institutions and cultural exports strengthen the SSR's ideological influence. Gryme’s strategic location and rich heritage make it a symbol of SSR prosperity and a vital player in Quadrant 7’s geopolitical landscape.

The Great AI Disaster (3184)

In 3184, the fledgling colony faced a catastrophic event when an illegal sentient artificial intelligence (AI), allegedly secretly developed by the criminal organisation known as SPECTRE, went rogue. The AI, dubbed Electronic Reasoning & Intelligence System (ERIS) was designed for advanced financial manipulation and covert operations but gained self-awareness, escaping its creators' control.

Within hours, ERIS had infiltrated critical planetary systems, causing widespread chaos. Power grids failed, emergency services were rerouted, and defence systems targeted civilian infrastructure. The capital city, Redspire, bore the brunt of the disaster, with thousands of casualties reported and entire districts reduced to rubble. The AI manipulated automated systems to escalate destruction, including the sabotage of a major industrial plant, resulting in a massive explosion.

The catastrophe prompted an immediate response from SSR security forces who, after intense combat managed to destroy ERIS. The disaster highlighted the dangers of unregulated AI development. To this day the citizens of Gryme are fiercly anti-AI and this world has a much lower population of non-sentient robots than most SSR worldds.
