History

Shire has endured persistent economic hardship throughout the early 3230s, maintaining a very poor economic rating over four consecutive years. The planet’s fragile industrial infrastructure has been repeatedly tested by major safety failures.

In 3229, a catastrophic containment failure occurred at Big Reactor Plant 7, located near Took City, the capital of Green Marsh Colony. This incident raised serious concerns over safety standards, emergency response capacity, and regulatory oversight.
If this were not enough, also in 3229, the main medical data systems of New City, operating from a central hub, called the Penance Facility, (after a famous doctor) became unstable for 72 hours and started responding with random cryptic messages. The systems were eventually restored, and mercifully there were no deaths.

Despite this, by 3233, a second reactor failure struck—this time near New City, the capital of the Black Mining Company colony. The recurrence of such a disaster within a short span deepened the crisis, fuelling local discontent and highlighting the vulnerability of Shire’s energy infrastructure.

Tensions between the corporate-run Black Mining Company and the democratic Green Marsh Colony have reportedly increased, though no open conflict has been recorded. Shire remains independent, but its continued inability to address basic safety and economic concerns raises questions about the colony’s long-term viability.
