Universe N

Designation given to a parallel Universe, believed to be home to an advanced non-human civilisation called the Narge. There are vague rumours that some governments may have possession of exotic Narge technology. Little or nothing is publicly known of these Narge, but again it is rumoured that some governments know more but keep the information shrouded in secrecy.

The only known access point to the Narge Universe is believed to be a wormhole in the middle of the Dark Nebula in Quadrant 7.

Research

There have been a number of significant research efforts by the MAFC, SSR and Republic of New Venus to use this wormhole to reliably access Universe N. There is some evidence that a number of crewed starships were lost, with all hands during the initial investigations of the wormhole. Whether this was as a result of action by the Narge, or an inherent risk of a wormhole transit is unknown. It would seem that there are a number of barriers to further study, which has, to date, not been resolved.

1. Time passes at a different rate in Universe N. Scientists differ, but the differential may be between 8 to 1 and 10 to 1 (that is time passes 8 to 10 times faster in Universe N than in our Universe.

2. The physical laws of Universe N may be subtly different. The effects on humans and advanced robots are little understood.

3. Transits through the Q7 Wormhole are extremely hazardous. Based on work done so far, there is a 91.3% chance that anything transiting the Wormhole fails to make the transit and vanishes. What happens to ships that fail the transit is unknown.
