The economic future of the colony seemed locked into endless mediocrity for many years as none of the main colonies seemed able to expand, or attract inward investment sufficient to grow in any significant way. However, during the early 3230's change was afoot.

In 3233, with the introduction of a planetary development plan by President Yamaguchi, economic indicators started to look a lot better. Inward investors gained confidence that the colony was worth investing in, and the planetary economy started it meteoric rise. By 3236, major powers were looking with interest at supporting the colony, and by 3237, associate membership of the Venerian Republic signals further economic growth in coming years.

History

For many years on W5 there were three main colonial groups on the planet:
- Yellow Expansion of the North, (YEON) (Representative democracy - initial investment from Hat Yay Sirukit)
- Green Expedition Colony (GEC) (Limited Democracy - initial investment from Ratanakosyn)
- Best Democratic Company (BDC) (Military Dictatorship - initial investment from CyberWeb Construction Incorporated).

In 3217 there was considerable unrest in the Green Expedition Colony over massive supply issues for essential drugs, which was only resolved as a result of a trade agreement with YEON.

In 3228, a tiny, unremarkable, mountain colony, Colony 71 accidentally discovered a previously unknown Forerunners site and recovered tonnes of Forerunner artifacts. https://theuniverse.org.uk/2022/05/14/news-of-3228-turn-186/ .
Shortly after this in 3229, the Venerian Republic purchased a large quantity of these items, believed, at the time to be the entire cache of objects. https://theuniverse.org.uk/2022/06/03/news-of-turn-187/ .
However rumours continue that many items had already been sold by individuals (at huge profit) from Colony 71 before the arrival of the Venerian negotiators.

In 3229 Colony 71 itself was bought out by investors and the micro-colony became part of YEON.

In 3230 the planet saw drama in the form of the arrival of Wolf 359 and Centauri Conglomerate warships in orbit with Wolfer troops landing in the unexplored Hyperion Peninsular and destroying a hidden space pirate base with absolutely nobody on the planet had any knowledge of.

3231 saw the BDC Civil War following the death of the dictator, Field Marshal Henry 'Papa' Chiyubakka. The war was short-lived and brought to an end by a coalition of peacekeeping forces from YEON and GEC. The colonists of the BDC held a referendum and voted to join the GEC.

In 3232 following extensive peaceful negotiations between the GEC and YEON, it was agreed to form The Federated Colonies of W5 (FCOW5) and a coalition leadership was agreed on, headed by President Hiroto Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi's government acted swiftly to peacefully integrate all the former colonial groups under one polity, understanding that the economic future of the colony would depend on being invited to join one of the major interstellar polities.

In 3234 the colonial groups were visited by the internationally-renowned Venerian negotiator Colonel Vassily Kachinsky. At the same time feelers were being extended by the Centauri Conglomerate. Major powers had started to take an interest in bringing W5 into their sphere.

In 3237, a colony-wide referendum voted for associate membership of the Venerian Republic, signalling optimism of further economic developing in the coming years.
